WHAT ARE THE DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROUTE OWNER?
The route owner is responsible for servicing the route and ensuring that product is well stocked and maintained for the stores. Route owners will order, deliver and stock product accordingly. The current owner works five days per week and approximately 40-45 total hours per week. Deliveries are not made on Wednesday and Sunday although quick merchandising/restock work is necessary at the larger accounts. There is flexibility in the days and hours as long as the customers are being serviced properly.
GROSS EARNINGS/COMMISSIONS
The route averages approximately $18,000 per week in gross sales. The owner receives 20% commission on most products and 15% on private label or other drop accounts. Based on an average 18.8% commission rate the route generates approximately $3,400 per week in gross revenue.
OPERATING COSTS
Typical expenses include gas/fuel, insurance, storage and some lost inventory. Other costs will vary from owner to owner depending on their travel costs and how they choose to run the business. The current owner estimates roughly $400 per week in operating expenses which leaves a weekly cashflow of approximately $3,000.
