The Route Exchange Year In Review 2016

The temperature has fallen below zero and the holidays are upon us which means 2016 is drawing to a close.  2016 was a great year for The Route Exchange, our buyers and our sellers.  This was the first full year of full-time operation for our company.  I started The Route Exchange in 2014 but continued running my own Snyder’s-Lance route until April 2015.  This year we grew our route sales service exponentially.  Over the last 12 months we really established our service and improved in a wide variety of areas.  We worked with hundreds of buyers and sellers throughout the year on a huge variety of route sizes and types.  Some notable accomplishments for our buyers and sellers…

  • 49 successful route purchases made by our buyers
  • Over $4 million paid to our sellers
  • 4 buyers who qualified for and received third party funding to make a purchase
  • Hundreds of buyer leads generated and added to our buyer database
  • Increased search presence and new strategic advertising techniques for route listings

We are extremely excited about 2017 and hope that we can help more route owners sell their businesses.  I got into this business to help friends sell their routes.  I will continue to provide the absolute best routes for sale service there is with no risk to the seller.  With a huge database of pre-qualified buyers and sellers lining up for 2017, we hope to eclipse 100 routes sold and over $7 million dollars paid to our sellers!!!  Contact us today if you have any questions or need additional information on working with us!

Route Owner Responsibilities

Route Owner Responsibilities

There are dozens of different types of routes and each of them have their own unique business models.  Regardless, most route owners have very similar day to day responsibilities.  The list below is meant to provide a general overview of what tasks route owners are responsible for.

  • Maintaining a strong relationship with your accounts
    • This includes store managers, receivers and any other employees that assist you
    • Be on time and maintain a professional and conversational relationship
  • Service your accounts consistently and diligently
    • Try and maintain a regular schedule so that account/store management knows when you will be there
    • Make your space in the store look professional.  The appearance of your product is crucial.
    • Remove expired or damaged product as soon as possible
  • Reliable and prompt communication with management and stores
    • Whether your district manager or an account is trying to contact you, route owners should try and address these communications as soon as possible
    • This includes phone, text or email communications
  • Support sales and promotional efforts
    • The most successful route owners do everything they can to increase sales
    • Owners should make it clear to their accounts that they want any additional display space that is available
    • If additional space is given, make sure those displays are full of product and setup as management requested
  • Add new accounts (if applicable/necessary)
    • Most route opportunities allow unlimited expansion as long as it is within the owner’s sales territory
    • If a district manager knows you are trying to grow the route they will often help you secure additional accounts in your area
  • Be accountable
    • This is simple.  Be on time, attend meetings, respond to calls/emails, etc.
